Energy efficiency seminars for mining and industrial customers
What is MIEO?
Mining and Industrial Energy Optimisation (MIEO), a chapter of The Southern African Association for Energy Efficiency (SAEE) will be hosting seminars on energy efficiency for industry around the country in 2010. This follows the series of successful seminars held around the country in 2009.
During the latter half of 2009, Eskom key industrial customers were invited to attend the MIEO seminars that were offered in Midrand, Durban, Cape Town, Rustenburg and Kathu. Chapter members presented a range of products and efficiency solutions that were useful and necessary to save energy in the industrial sector. Companies who are members of MIEO are:
1. ABB Consulting
2. Actom (industrial and mining fans)
3. Atlas Copco (compressed air systems)
4. Carbon & Energy Africa (energy management & carbon consultants)
5. Endress + Hauser (energy automated monitoring and targeting)
6. Energy Cybernetics (energy management through performance visualisation)
7. ABB (low voltage motors)
8. Weir Warman (pump systems)
9. Martec (compressed air leak detection)
10. Sandvik (materials handling)
11. TAS Online (pump monitoring systems)
12. Eskom DSM (energy efficient technology advice and DSM funding mechanisms)
13. ABB (variable speed drives)
Who should attend?
The MIEO seminars, which give practical guidelines for achieving significant electricity savings, are specifically targeted at professionals within the mining and wider industrial sectors. Companies who have the following on site can benefit largely by attending these seminars:
1. Electric motors
2. Conveyor systems
3. Materials handling
4. Pumping systems
5. Need for carbon funding advice and assessments to reduce green house gasses
6. Need for demand side management technology advice or funding
7. Need for accessing energy services companies for advice and to register DSM projects
8. Need for a strategic approach to energy management, measurement and control
9. Compressed air, steam, vacuum and fuel gas
10. Need for compressed air leak detection
11. Need for consulting services to improve performance in industrial energy efficiency
12. Industrial and mining fans
For 2010 the focus is:
• Areas where significant electricity savings can be found
• Why the opportunities exist and why energy saving is so important for this sector
• How these savings can be realised - relevant case studies will be presented
• Who needs to act and who the suppliers are that can provide the solutions
• What needs to be done and what costs and paybacks are associated with the interventions
• An opportunity for interested customers to engage face to face with the MIEO on energy audits
Benefits of attending
Not only do the seminars provide a source of education in the arena of energy efficiency, but delegates will be able to consult on a one-on-one basis with speakers, who are experts in their fields of energy efficiency and energy saving. Click here to see event details.
Format of presentations
The contents of the presentations demonstrate ‘how to save' and in this way the greater portion of mining and industrial electrical consumption will be effectively covered in the programme. Presentations are structured at maximum 20 minutes each with ample networking time allowed in-between as well as table top displays around which further private discussions can be held.
